  Confused over JW friend's behavior: (I'm not a JW)

  i invited a jw friend of mine to a christian retreat, and she did go.

  it was a small group.

  she seemed to enjoy herself.

  I had a study once who would only use the Bible. I would look up all the scriptures in the jw study book and go through them as an outline. Impressed them and they did become a witness.

  So just saying, have what you want to talk about written down and the scriptures to support it ready too. A lot of people are impressed with the jws ability to come up with a scripture or two to support each belief.

  Keep your friend in one area of the Bible and study it in context. Otherwise, it will end up being a game of Bible hopscotch.

  Do you get a kick out of end of the world themed TV Shows/Movies?

  soon the movie 2012 will be here with its incredible effects of the end of the world.

  I saw Flashback. it was interesting more because everyone saw 6 months into the future. That's a pretty good premise to start out with because there are a lot of scenarios to work out. It will be fun to see if they can prevent some of the things they saw, death, divorce, returning to alcoholism, etc.

  I have some trouble with watching doomsday movies because some of my family are still dubs and it winds them up too much. Puts them in dub mode way too much.

  Stretching Pierced Ear Holes

  i saw three of my friends with extra thick earrings, like the spiral kind that get bigger as they go around, and have since wanted to do my own.

  i got 10g tiny but thicker hoops and have just shoved them through enough to put the little doughnut shaped back on.

  ouch.

  I saw a young man with large rings stretching the holes in his earlobes to about an inch around. It reminded me of the tribes that put things in their lower lip to enlarge it. Looked kinda weird.

  personally, i would have no problem with this law.

  if they want to 'rejoin' society, this should be a condition of their release.

  i do not understand why human rights groups would be more concerned about these dangerous criminals...more...than children.. what do you think?.

  I've worked with a few sex offenders. Chemical castration did help them not to reoffend. It needs to be closely monitered so that the blood levels are effective, but not dangerous to the offender.

  Rape is about more than sexual drive and I don't imagine this would work in all cases. The ones I worked with had mental disabilities also.

  Have you ever heard of a situation where a speaker had to leave the platform/stage?

  One speaker had a stroke and had to leave the platform. He wanted to continue and had to be persuaded to get help. He was just sitting there and trying to talk, but not so well. It took about two hours to convince him to go to the hospital.

  Some people thought he was "brave and faithful", but I just thought he was stubborn.

  Kinda scary. I don't think that oil is involved in this one. I also don't feel real comfortable with Iran having nuclear weapons.

  Israel has to be itching to blow up the nuclear construction sites. Iran denies them the right to exist.

  Iran has agreed to inspections of the new site. Maybe cooler heads will prevail.

  I saw the little leader of Iran on an interview on NBC. It amazes me that the lady reporter wore a head covering to talk to him. It also amazes me that people even listen to his nonsense.

  I don't think Israel will tolerate Iran becoming a nuclear power.

  the jws explanation of the human being jesus christ is an unreasonable, irrational trinity.. first he is a god with a divine nature.

  but he is also an angel, so presumably has the nature of that level of created being.. then he is deprived of these natures and he only possesses the attributes of the human nature, albeit the nature possessed by the very first one, (homo erectus or neanderthal?

  ) adam and his wife eve.

  Were You Always Feeling Guilty As A Witness?

  i think the religion works on guilt.

  everyone is made to feel they're not good enough some how or perhaps they practice a "secret sin" and it gnaws at them.

  so they decide to pioneer or "do more", recognizing they can never really make up for whatever shortcomings they have.. were you a guilt ridden jw?

  Casper mentioned never feeling "refreshed". That is what I noticed when I left a meeting. I always felt like they were dragging me down or at least trying to.

  The emphasis was always on the badness of people instead of the good.

  It is similar to the use of "undeserved kindness" as opposed to "grace. One makes you feel worthless and the other lifts your spirits.
